He began his artistic life as a realist in the era dominated by abstraction and ended it as an abstract painter in an era marked by the resurgence of realism. His was a slow evolution, fed by constant reading, travel, and study; a patient search tempered by the constant fine tuning of the emotion of color and the transparency of light that became his hallmark.
