About the Author

Growing up black in the 1940s and 1950s in Charleston was an extraordinary challenge. But Wally Johnson overcame the cultural, social and political divide. Despite the obstacles, he took advantage of America’s democratic spirit — that peculiar attitude that the United States is one nation, under God, where each citizen is at least as good as anyone else. That spirit is what fuels the entrepreneurial self-confidence that drives him. He was inspired from the start by his family, friends and teachers. And with a lot of help from the Almighty, he took advantage of America’s democratic spirit time after time.

I Can Do That!

How do you go from the projects of Charleston to owning a company making over $150 million in revenue annually? Just ask Walter Johnson III. He would tell you that the secret to his business success is faith in God, prayer and hard work.

Johnson started Eagle Group International, Inc., a medical services contracting company, in 1996, after 26 years of active duty service in the Army and eight years of working for the American Hospital Association and the Institute for Diversity in Health-Services Management. Instead of resting on his laurels and living his life out in security as most of his friends advised, he put his retirement on the line to start his own contracting business.

Was he crazy? Many would say yes, but Johnson was confident because he knew God was guiding him. Johnson's faith has been important to him through childhood. From prayers at the end of each chapter and his retelling of his dependence upon God, the reader can see it is still important to him today.

In this book, Johnson shares the secrets of his success and imparts some practical tips to those wanting to start or further their own business. He tells how and why to write a comprehensive business plan. But remember "the most important part of the ultimate business plan": faith in God and prayer.
